Ultrasound liposuction is a type of liposuction that uses sound waves to liquefy the fat before being sucked out of the body through the suction tube, called a cannula. Vaser liposuction is a type of ultrasound liposuction.

There are two main types of Vaser lipo. This ultrasound technique can be done either internally or externally.
External Vaser lipo is called Vaser Shape. During ultrasound lipo, the surgeon passes a device over the area that is being targeted.
The handheld device emits high-frequency ultrasound waves into the fat. The ultrasound waves damage fat cells that are removed naturally from the body as the body removes any damaged cells.
Vaser Shape liposuction is often used with massage to encourage the removal of the damaged cells. The Vaser Shape lipo requires up to five treatments for the person to achieve noticeable results.
The external Vaser Shape procedure is sometimes used after liposuction to fine tune the results. Vaser Shape can be used to reduce the swelling and promote healing after a liposuction surgery.
Vasor Lipo is liposuction surgery that applies the ultrasound to liquefy the fat before the fat is sucked out with a small cannula. This type of liposuction can use either local anesthesia that numbs the area or general anesthesia that puts the patient to sleep.
The face, chin, back, arms, hips, waist, abdomen, buttocks, thighs, breasts, inner knees, calves, and ankles are common areas treated with Vaser Lipo. During the Vaser Lipo surgery, a medicated saline solution is injected into the area.
The fluid helps numb the area and decrease bleeding. Small cannulas are inserted into the area and ultrasound waves are administered to break down the fat cells.
This makes it easier for the fat cells to be removed. Using the ultrasound waves to damage the fat cells sometimes allows surgeons to remove more fat than would be removed with regular liposuction.
A compression garment is worn to help the area heal quickly. Some believe the use of the compression garment encourages the skin to mold to the new contour rather than sag or wrinkle.
Massage therapy is sometimes used to promote healing during the recovery period. The surgeon may have more instructions for the patient to follow during recovery.
Recovery time is often faster for ultrasound-assisted liposuction like Vaser Lipo than with traditional liposuction surgery. Traditional liposuction also can cause more damage to nerves and blood vessels.
Vaser lipo surgery is often considered a better option than laser liposuction, because laser lipo can cause burns on the skin. Also, larger areas of fat can be treated with Vaser surgery than laser liposuction surgery.
The patient should discuss the options for ultrasound liposuction and liposuction surgery with the doctor. Side effects, recovery time, cost, and possible complications are important details to discuss with the surgeon before the procedure.
